SOUTH TANZANIA FAMILY SAFARI

This specially designed family holiday starts with an introductory nature skills course and horse riding at a private beach on the south coast of Dar es Salaam, then game drive safaris in Mikumi National Park and finally game drives and a boat safari on the Wami river in Saadani National Park, Tanzania’s only coastal wildlife reserve.
A short flight from Saadani leads to an exploration of Zanzibar’s historical Stone Town and relaxation on one of Zanzibar’s finest white sand beaches.

DAY 1. DAR ES SALAAM
Arrive and transfer to south coast of Dar es Salaam to a private beach. O/n Camping. (FB). Camping facilities include large walk in canvas dome tents equipped with 2 stretcher beds, bed linen and pillows and a side table and chairs.

DAY 2. DAR ES SALAAM
An introductory bush skills nature course designed to educate both children and adults about the natural environment of Tanzania. Topics covered include local flora and fauna, reptiles, nature walks, nature games and survival skills, and in the evening astrology and African folklore tales by the campfire. At certain times of the year green turtles come to the beach to lay eggs and ‘turtle safaris’ can be organised to see the hatchlings.

DAY 3. DAR ES SALAAM
In the morning stable management and horse riding with trails through the bush and along the beach can be organised. Alternatively an extended bush skills course can be organised for non riders. After lunch relax at the beach or take guided nature walks. In the evening a night walk can be organised for the adventurous.

DAY 3. MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK
Morning departure with Authentic Tanzania private safari vehicle and guide to Mikumi National Park, roughly a 5 hour drive from Dar es Salaam. After lunch game drive safari with the chance to see a huge variety of game and wildlife. Commonly seen species include elephant, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, lion, impala, hippo, crocodile and several species of antelope.
O/n Mikumi Wildlife Camp (FB). This comfortable safari lodge has stone cottages with an extra room so a family of 4 can be comfortably accommodated in one cottage.

DAY 4. MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK
Morning and afternoon game drives in Mikumi N.P. Lunch is taken back at the lodge giving plenty of time for an afternoon siesta or just watching the wildlife at the lodge’s waterhole from the comfort of your cottage verandah.

Morning and afternoon game drives in Mikumi N.P. Lunch is taken back at the lodge giving plenty of time for an afternoon siesta or just watching the wildlife at the waterhole from the comfort of your cottage verandah.

DAY 6. SAADANI NATIONAL PARK
Drive to Saadani N.P. (approx 4 hours), Tanzania’s only coastal wildlife reserve Safari options (1 safari/day) will be organised by the lodge in Saadani and include morning or afternoon game drives and a stunning boat safari on the Wami river. With luck expect to see giraffe, buffalo, lion, reedbuck, warthog, wildebeest and zebra just inland from the deserted beaches and hippo, crocodile and a huge variety of bird life at the river.
O/n Saadani Safari Lodge. The lodge has a swimming pool, and is located on a long stretch of deserted beach.

DAY 7. SAADANI NATIONAL PARK
Safari options will be organised by the lodge in Saadani and include morning or afternoon game drives and a stunning boat safari on the Wami river. O/n Saadani Safari Lodge. (FB)

DAY 8. SAADANI NATIONAL PARK

DAY 9. ZANZIBAR STONE TOWN
Fly to Zanzibar just 20 minutes away. Arrive in Stone Town in time for lunch. In the afternoon explore the historical Stone Town. O/n Chavda Hotel located in the heart of the old town. (BB)

DAY 10. ZANZIBAR NORTH EAST COAST
Transfer to the north east coast (approx 1 hour). A spice tour can be organised on route to the beach. Arrive at Bluebay Beach Hotel located on the beautiful Kiwengwa beach. (HB)

DAY 11. ZANZIBAR NORTH EAST COAST
Relax at Bluebay, which has a swimming pool, diving centre which can also organise snorkelling trips and water sports, and a kids club facility.

DAY 14. DEPARTURE
Transfer back to Stone Town to fly to Dar es Salaam (15 min flight) and connect to your international flight departure.
