Ras Kutani
A rustic beach getaway set on a crescent of white sandy beach, flanked by a freshwater lagoon and a coastal forest, approximately 35km south of Dar es Salaam.
THE ACCOMMODATION
* 12 spacious bandas - each individually handcrafted using local natural materials are situated under the cooling canopy of indigenous trees and offer ocean and lagoon views
* 8ft wide double beds with bedside tables & lamps
* 240v lighting
* En suite bathrooms with cupboard space and large dressing area
* Hot and cold fresh water showers
* Large front veranda with Swahili daybeds and hammocks
* Laundry services available
THE FACILITIES
Guest areas are a soaring thatched structure affording superb views of the beach, lagoon and the ocean.
Savour freshly prepared ‘Fruits of the Ocean’ and succulent Pan-African cuisine
ACTIVITIES .. OR NOT
Relaxation is definitely the keynote but also …
Body boarding, surfing, and snorkelling or explore the fresh water lagoon on a kayak.
Horse riding along the beach or through the bush and local plantations
Nature walks through the indigenous coastal forest, or along the deserted beach
Guided walks to local inland or fishing village along the coast (subject to tides)
Deep Sea Fishing around the reefs, or full day excursions to Latham island and Zanzibar Channel (Prior notification required and subject to Ocean conditions)
THE VERDICT
A good beach alternative to Zanzibar with a genuinely deserted beach, and close enough to Dar es Salaam to make it a viable option for pre or post safari relaxation. More ‘natural’ than its neighbour Amani, and more barefoot luxury than just luxury.
