A Tent with a View Safari Lodge
Located just outside the northern boundary of Saadani National Park, Tanzania’s only coastal wildlife reserve, on the beach.
The Accommodation
8 seafront tented bandas raised on stilts with wide balconies complete with hammocks catching the sea breeze. Each banda has a different design and colour scheme with a Saadani theme such as kingfisher, colobus, hippo, etc.
Toilets and showers are attached to the tents and have stylish swing door showers made of local coconut wood. All bandas make use of the local materials for furniture design. 4 of the rooms are FAMILY bandas with an extension with 3 single beds attached to the main banda - perfect for families. At the rear of the lodge there are some bandas with a bush setting.
There is also the Venus suite - a private banda set in the mangroves with a walkway leading to a sunken bath for the ultimate romantic soak.
The Facilities
A large central dining pavilion with 3 balconies overlooks the beach. The beach is deserted for kilometres in each direction giving a complete sense of freedom and remoteness, and the water is clear and safe for swimming. Superb seafood specials caught fresh from the sea. Feeding tables for the resident bushbabies are spotlit from the main restaurant. There is also another restaurant and bar area overlooking the mangrove creek.
The Activities
The camp is located in an old coconut grove on a huge plot and several nature trails have been marked out in the bush behind the camp. Nearby is the Mafui creek and the camp uses a dugout canoe for bird watching trips on the creek.Half day game drives and walking safaris INSIDE the park can also be organised at the camp, as well as a full day excursion including a boat safari on the Wami river. Safaris can be booked at the camp.
The Verdict
An extremely tranquil place to relax and great for families. The beach is deserted and offers safe swimming and with the location just outside the park you can choose when you wish to pay park fees and take safaris inside the park.
