Shooting Star Lodge
Very friendly family run lodge perched on the cliff overlooking the beautiful Kiwengwa beach on north east coast of Zanzibar.
The Accommodation
4 garden view rooms are located near the restaurant overlooking landscaped gardens, all en suite double rooms with fans and a small verandah.
10 spacious en suite seaview cottages (4 are converted to accommodate families with twin beds in an upstairs room) are located on the edge of the cliff with stunning views of the sea. These offer more privacy than the garden rooms and have large verandahs.
The Facilities
The open air bar and restaurant serve good local and international cuisine and some nights (especially full moon) BBQs are organised at the beach which is accessed directly from the lodge. The infinity swimming pool has a stunning location and is a respite when tide is low. There is an elevated beach bar and shaded sun loungers on the private beach.
The Activities
Bicycles can be hired for visits to the local communities in Kiwengwa. Scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing boat trips and wind surfing can also be organised from the lodge. Kiwengwa beach rates amongst the most picturesque beaches in Zanzibar.
The Verdict
A very relaxed small lodge with genuine Zanzibari hospitality, great cuisine, comfortable accommodation and a fantastic location. The landscaped gardens surround the cottages which benefit from a cool breeze atop the cliff and the private stretch of beach is as good as it gets in Zanzibar. Highly recommended.
