MEDJUMBE ISLAND

A private island just 1.1km long by 350m wide located in the heart of the Quirimbas archipelago, northern Mozambique.

THE ACCOMMODATION

12 chalets with en suite bathrooms, large verandahs with hammock and all are within 10m of the beach. The chalets are on elevated ground with spectacular sea views.
All chalets have aircon, minibar, satellite TV, hair dryer and electronic safe.

THE FACILITIES

The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor deck and the loft lounge area has casual seating with fantastic views of the bay.
There is a swimming pool with shaded sun loungers.

THE ACTIVITIES

Watersports include diving and snorkelling, fishing, sea kayaks, Hobie cats and waterskiing. Sunset cruises, island picnics, cultural island tours, island dhow tours and a day trip to Ibo island can all be arranged at the island.

THE VERDICT

Medjumbe is very remote and is accessed by flight from Pemba to Matemo island (20 mins), then a 45 min boat transfer. Medjumbe really is a tiny desert island paradise and will suit those wanting to get away from everything whilst not compromising on the luxuries such as aircon and a swimming pool.

An excellent extension to a southern Tanzania safari for those seeking an exclusive safari combined with a private island experience and worthwhile considering combining as a 2 island vacation with a few days at both Medjumbe and Matemo.
