Mdonya Old River Camp

This small, relatively newly established camp, is located in the far western part of Ruaha National Park, a few kilometres from the Mdonya Falls. It is an unpretentious camp which concentrates on the game viewing experience more than luxury.

THE ACCOMMODATION

The 10 tents are basic but comfortable and have an open air shower attached at the back. Each has its own shaded verandah and there is game activity in the camp environs.

THE FACILITIES

The central dining area and lounge tents are located under sycamore fig trees and open sided affording good game viewing. Dinner is also sometimes taken in the old riverbed.

ACTIVITIES

Full and half day game drives in open sided vehicles and walking safaris can be organised with the camp management. The camp manager, Malcolm, is a mine of information on animal behaviour.

THE VERDICT

Well managed and functional camp but located far from the main tourist areas, the confluence and the airstrip.
Can get exciting when game is passing through the camp.
