Authentic Ruaha Camp

From June 2009 Authentic Tanzania will be opening an intimate wilderness camp in Ruaha National Park. The camp is seasonal and will be removed during the less productive game viewing months or when weather conditions make our sites inaccessible. Walking safaris are possible from the camp.

The focus of the camp is to encourage guests to embrace the Tanzanian wilderness by taking you deep into the bush to a private campsite where you have no option but to awaken your senses and appreciate the unique natural environment of southern Tanzania.

The camp is located in the heart of Ruaha National Park where wildlife is in close proximity and has been chosen specifically as a place to relax, get away from the stresses of day to day working conditions and come face to face with nature. Ruaha is undoubtedly one of Africa's greatest wildlife parks and is still largely undiscovered by most tour operators thus tourism is limited and this allows you to truly appreciate the wildlifein peace.

The camp consists of just 6 tents accommodating up to 12 guests.

Ruaha feedback June 2009

We had looked for special camping on a private campsite and we really got it. It has a real wilderness feeling as you announced it before the journey and you were right.
We got to know Authentic Tanzania because you were recommended in the lonely planet. The guidebook lists Authentic Tanzania not under the budget range but in the midrange. This difference is not only clearly visible, it is huge and can be felt in every detail. This was a remarkable difference to what other operaters provide when they talk about private camping on special campsites, even in the same price range. Your guests get alot more from their money than with travelling with other companies. Thanks for the great care before and during booking and during our stay in Tanzania.

The walk-in tents are 3.5 m x 3.5m x 2.15m with an en suite toilet and shower extension.
The tents are equipped with stretcher beds complete with mattress, bed linen, pillows and towels, a clothes rack and a side table and chairs outside under the shaded porch area.

The en suite toilet and shower extension consists of a traditional bucket shower with hot water filled daily, a wash stand and chemical toilets.
Since water is a precious resource in most of the areas which we visit we encourage guests to take one hot shower every day and keep laundry to essential items only.
Solar lighting illuminates the tents at night.

The mess tent is open sided to allow 360 degree views and breakfast and dinner will be taken here usually. Sometimes breakfast will be taken in the bush and lunches will either be taken as a picnic if out on a full day safari or back at the mess tent if guests want to relax at the camp. Special dietary requirements are catered for.

A lounge tent provides great views of the surroundings and shelter from the main heat of the day – a place to relax in the midst of the bush.

Evenings are spent by the camp fire under the stars.

Children are welcome at the camps at parents discretion but it must be stressed strict parental supervision is required at all times with wild animals in close proximity to the camps. In Ruaha we recommend children should be at least 6 years old.

Driver/guides are also accommodated and drivers are welcome to eat with their guests.

Photographers can book the camps on an exclusive basis with professional guiding by Sven Liebchen, and the camps can also be booked on an exclusive basis by families and groups of friends.

In Ruaha a $5 donation for every bed night will be made to the Ruaha Conservation Fund and is included in rates.
