Udzungwa Mountain View Hotel
Located close to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park HQ, just outside Mangula village.
THE ACCOMMODATION
16 basic rooms with mosquito nets, fans and en suite bathroom. Each room has a double bed and a single bed and a small patio.
THE FACILITIES
A main restaurant and bar area with outdoor and indoor seating. Food is good with game meat often on the menu. There is satellite TV in the main lounge.
There is also a large campsite attached to the hotel.
THE SAFARIS
The main Udzungwa Mountains National Park gate is about a 15 min walk from the hotel and the friendly staff help organise treks of various duration. The most popular walk is the 5 hour Sanje Falls walk. Guides can be hired at the park HQ.
THE VERDICT
The hotel is pretty basic, in need of renovation and has a temperamental water system. Currently this is the best option if planning to visit the Udzungwas but only as it is the only hotel resembling tourist standard. Although we try our best pre booking can be difficult due to the flexible attitude of management to walk in customers bumping out pre booked reservations. Fine for those with an open mind seeking a base for hiking in the mountains though.
