Mikumi, Usambara Mountains and Pangani - 10 day

And now for something completely different... game viewing in Mikumi National Park, hiking and cultural experiences at Amani Nature Reserve and relaxation on the Pangani coast. An off the beaten track and relaxed itinerary

An off the beaten track safari to Mikumi National Park, the Usambara Mountains and the north Tanzanian mainland coast.

Mikumi National Park offers fantastic game viewing and a good park infrastructure. The closest park to Dar es Salaam with the chance to see all the big 5 except rhino.

Emau Hill Forest Campsite, close to Amani and adjoining the Amani Nature Reservein the East Usambara Mountains, operates in an environmentally responsible way. It offers comfortable accommodation in simple tented bandas with fine views all around of mature forest. Set in over 70 hectares,

Emau offers walks to suit all tastes through a variety of habitats with particularly fine examples of African violets growing alongside the river. The location is a delight for serious and more relaxed birdwatchers alike with the majority of the ‘must see’ species either on the site or very close by.
Guided day and night walks are available both in the immediate area and further afield in these beautiful and little-known mountains. You can of course justsit, relax and enjoy before a candlelit dinner and after-dinner drinks around the fire.

The untouched Pangani Coast offers the chance to snorkel or scuba dive off Maziwe Island, explore the Pangani River by boat and glimpse crocodiles and the spectacular birdlife that thrives here. You can also take a leisurely kayak trip, a walking tour of historic Pangani town.
