Sea turtles in Tanzania are under increasing threat from entanglement in fishing gears, poaching for their meat and eggs, coastal development and plastic pollution. Sea Sense trains and emloys local community members to monitor and protect sea turtle nests and to raise awareness of the importance of conserving these ancient mariners.  Over 2,600 sea turtle nests have been protected since 2001 and more than 19,000 sea turtle hatchlings have safely reached the sea.
