Sven grew up in Tanzania having moved here from Germany when he was four. He was educated first in Dar es Salaam and then at boarding school in Germany. He attended University in the UK where he graduated with a degree in Tourism and Sport.

He speaks fluent German, English and Kiswahili. From a very early age Sven knew he wanted to work in the African bush leading Tanzania Safaris. His first opportunity was setting up and managing hunting camps in 1996. He then switched to the photographic side and he spent several seasons working at lodges in the various National Parks and Game Reserves in Tanzania. He was involved in everything from camping safaris management, to setting up mobile fly camps, and he also began safari guiding.

Realising he’d found his calling, he then attained his safari guiding certificates during six months living off the land in the bush in Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia. He also has professional safari guiding licenses from South Africa and Kenya.

Sven has a wealth of experience in professional guiding, camping safaris and walking safaris and he is most at home under canvas. In 2005 Sven joined the then photographic safari company Authentic Tanzania Safaris as a Director.

Since then, he has pioneered private wilderness camping safaris and walking safaris in remote locations in the southern Tanzania safari circuit, allowing Guests to observe wildlife close up and get a real feel for the bush with nobody else around. He is an excellent marksman, and groups are in safe hands as Sven leads them on exhilarating walking safaris and night drives to get yet another intimate perspective of the Tanzania safari circuit.

As well as leading a pioneering Tanzania safari company, Sven is committed to conservation and has developed eco-tourism projects with NGOs and community groups to improve environmental education and awareness of wildlife management. Through these endeavours he helps to ensure that funds raised from tourism are directed to those community groups active in the conservation and protection of endangered species.
