Lake Manyara National Park

Located beneath the cliffs of the Manyara Escarpment, on the edge of the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park offers varied ecosystems and breathtaking views. Situated on the establshed Tanzania Safari route to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park's ground water forests, bush plains, baobob strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer ecological variety in a smaller area than many other Northern parks, so perfect for a Tanzania Safari with limited time.
The alkaline soda of Lake Manyara is home to an array of bird life that thrives on its brackish waters. Pink flamingo stoop and graze by the thousands, colourful specks against the grey minerals of the lake shore and herons flap their wings against the sun-drenched sky. Even reluctant bird-watchers on Tanzania Safaris will find something to watch and marvel at within the national park.
The park is also home to hippos, baboons, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, and is particularly good for bird watching, with over 380 species having been recorded. Take a Tanzania safari by jeep here, or perhaps try a walking safari around the lake for a different perspective.
Other alternative Tanzania Safaris at Lake Manyara include heading north o a wakng safari in the company of the Maasai, to climb Oldoinyo Lengai, 'the Mountain of God', which is sacred to the Maasai, and look down on Lake Natron glistening in the sun far below. Similar views can be had in the south of the region where Lake Eyasi lies, home to the Hadzabe people.
